The Port of Antwerp focuses on North China

The Antwerp Port Authority organized a road show to north China: Tianjin, Qingdao and Dalian from 23 to 25 April. On 23 April, a seminar on how to reduce the supply chain cost to Europe was organized for the Chinese manufacturers and shippers in TEDA area. This event was supported by TEDA Trade Promotion Center. On 24 April, the Flanders-China Chamber of Commerce, the CCPIT Qingdao and the Antwerp Port Authority organized an investment seminar on Doing Business with Belgium. Next to that a Letter of Intent for the establishment of a sister sports relationship was signed between the Antwerp Port Authority and Qingdao Port Group. On 25 April, the delegation of the Antwerp Port Authority visited Dalian. An agreement on the granting of two awards for the best theses was signed between the Antwerp Port Authority and Dalian Maritime University. The marketing strategy of the port of Antwerp is built around the ambition to be “top-of-mind” with decision makers in international trade and shipping. With this Port of Antwerp Maritime award we emphasize the importance of education of young people in port and maritime management, and the port hopes to make young people aware of the enormous possibilities of the port of Antwerp. Besides the agreement with DMU, the port authority celebrated the 15th anniversary of the sister ports relationship with Dalian Port Group. There are more than 350 APEC alumni in Dalian.

The Port of Antwerp has a close relationship with China and organizes each year various events in China. The Antwerp Port Authority has websites fully in Chinese and has joint with Weibo in China. Antwerp is sister port of Dalian, Shanghai and Shenzhen and has friendly cooperation with other Chinese ports. There are more than 3000 APEC alumni in China. The Port of Antwerp has received many high level visits from China. Mr. XI Jinping, President of China visited the Port of Antwerp in 2009 when he was Vice President of China. Annually about 10 million ton of cargoes are transported between Antwerp and China, more and more shipping lines connect Antwerp with China.

The Port of Antwerp has its unique advantage in the location. Due to the short distances between Antwerp and other main economic centers in Europe, like UK, Germany, Netherlands and France, it has become the largest logistics port in Europe. Additionally, Antwerp is the fourth largest chemical production location in the world and the first largest one in Europe. 75% world top chemical companies have invested in Belgium. Also, Antwerp is the capital of fashion industry in Belgium. Specially, Antwerp is the largest diamond production location in the world. More than half of the worldwide diamond is produced here.
